Richmond Scores 1st Place

Updated: Feb 12, 2020

Richmond Upon Thames - The Happiest Place To Live

For the fifth year in a row Richmond Upon Thames has been voted the happiest place to live in London.

The annual Rightmove Happiness At Home survey polls 22,000 homeowners across the UK in 194 locations, with a London index and a national list.

As well as topping the London index, Richmond came third in the national list. This is the first time a London contender has broken into the top ten happiest place in Britain.

The survey measured how people feel about 12 happiness factors ranging from how safe residents feel and how friendly and polite the neighbours are, to the level of community spirit and a sense of belonging. They were also asked about the quality and variety of green space in the area plus local amenities such as sports facilities, arts and culture, shops, restaurants and how satisfied they were with essential services like doctors' surgeries and schools.

“Richmond is my favourite place on Earth” Longtime resident Sir David Attenborough may have been to every corner of the planet but he chose Richmond as his home.

What do people love about Richmond

Nature & Green Space

With Richmond Park, Kew Gardens, Marble Hill Park, Old Deer Park, Petersham Water Meadows, The Terrace Gardens, Richmond Green and miles of Thames tow path walks on the doorstep, the borough of Richmond Upon Thames scored highly in this category.

Education

Residents also scored Richmond highly for its top-ranked schools. Families often move to Richmond for the fantastic variety of independent and Outstanding Ofsted rated nurseries, primary and secondary schools including Maria Grey Nursery School, The Deer Park Primary School and Waldegrave & GreyCourt secondary schools to name but a few.

Recreation & Cultural Activities

With three cinemas, two theatres, a museum, library, art galleries, National Trust properties, a wide variety of health clubs, restaurants, bars, cafes and shops, it’s no wonder Richmond scored highly in these categories too.

Transport Links

Richmond is only 16 minutes from Waterloo on Southwestern Trains, and is also on the District line and the Overland as well as on many good bus links into and out of London. The close proximity to Heathrow and the countryside as well as central London secures Richmond as London’s true Arcadia.
