ONSLOW ROAD is a road of many parts in the heart of Richmond Hill. The top end is dominated with four+ bedroom semi-detached Victorian homes in varying styles and stature, many with raised ground floors and off-street parking. Palm trees, unusual wall murals and statues keep it leafy and eclectic.
The middle section by the bollards where the road joins Montague has a row of smaller Edwardian houses and some very tall and impressive Victorian houses set back from the road that have been converted to flats, all with very long gardens.
The mid to lower end has a few slightly smaller Victorian terraced houses that mirror the ones behind them on Mount Ararat Road and more large solid five to six bed Victorian houses (some converted into apartments of varying sizes) that run down to The Vineyard and Vineyard Passageway Burial Ground that leads straight into the centre of town.
Running parallel to Mount Ararat Road, Onslow is one of the longest roads in Richmond but the bollards in the centre keep the road safe and quiet from traffic. It’s bisected by some other lovely roads including Chiselhurst, Montage, Onslow Avenue, The Vineyard, Ellerker Gardens and Lancaster Park.
The variety and size of property ensures an interesting mix of residents. They're a diverse bunch with actors, screenwriters and singers, to architects, pilots, gardeners and handymen. Many of whom are “Richmond Good Neighbour” volunteers and have been particularly active with NHS fundraising and neighbourhood support initiatives during the current Covid situation. A happy place to live!
Local Knowledge & Neighbourhood Haunts:
Onslow is conveniently located for Richmond Hill Village on Friars Stile Road at the top of the road. The local institution The Richmond Hill Bakery is only equalled by Luna Da Luca Delicatessen and the pizzeria opposite, all with pavement dining. The recent addition of The Good Wine Shop which already has seats in the window and will soon have outside seating is a great place to while away a few hours over a glass of wine and nibbles. The village really comes to life during school and nursery drop offs and pick ups and at the weekend when cyclists and walkers destined for Richmond park stop off for a coffee and a catch-up.
School catchments are excellent for primary schools including outstanding Ofsted rated The Vineyard on Friars Stile Road and senior schools (co-ed GreyCourt in Ham & Waldegrave girls senior & co-ed sixth form in Twickenham). Both rated outstanding by Ofsted and very popular with Richmond families.
Average House Price: £1,247,000.00 (April 2020)

What the Neighbours Say:
“We love Onslow Road! Our house in Onslow Road has been my family home since I was 5 years old! I grew up here and now we are raising our own family in the same house, having moved back in 2008. Onslow Road is so conveniently placed in Richmond - it feels like a really central point in the town as it’s a short walk to so many places like the town centre, the river, Richmond Park and Friars Stile Road which has many convenient shops. I also love it as so many of the original houses are still here and were not lost during the war so the architecture is still very traditional. We live just below the bollards in Onslow Road where our children can play safely in the road as there is little traffic and we often get comments from passers-by that it’s lovely to see children playing in the streets. We know our immediate neighbours well and always stop for a chat when we see them yet at the same time respecting each other’s privacy”. Clare
